A short time ago, helicopters involved in the search were stood down after an aircraft spotted a crash site near the dam, which is in rugged country south of Gympie.
The terrain was too rough for a helicopter to land in but the AGL Action Rescue chopper landed nearby and a medical team including doctor and paramedic are walking in.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority confirmed there were no survivors.

Search chief Mike Barton described the area as a 'high impact site'.
Channel 7 reported the impact area was on a ridge-line.

Contour maps of the area show peaks are around 400m high - an altitude believed to be above the cloud base on the day the plane disappeared.

Courtesy of 7 news;

Searchers have found the wreckage of a vintage biplane that crashed with six people aboard north of Brisbane, the AGL Rescue Helicopter Service has told AAP.

The service also issued a statement saying the crash site had been found but did not say where.

"AGL Action Rescue Helicopter crew are on the ground and walking into the site," the statement said.

"There is no information about survivors or otherwise at this time."

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) spokesman Mike Barton told reporters it was a "high impact crash site" in dense bushland.

He said a rescue helicopter had been unable to land at the scene but had touched down nearby.

Doctors and paramedics are heading to the scene.

Mr Barton confirmed there was no word about any survivors.

It's understood the crash site is near the Borumba Dam, south of Gympie.

Sadly, local news reporting;

A DAY of searching thick bushland has failed to find Des Porter's missing vintage bi-plane or his five passengers.

As many as 16 helicopters left the Kenilworth showgrounds about 5pm after a day of fruitless searching through national park, marsh and mountain country to the north and southwest of the tiny Sunshine Coast hinterland town.

Pilot Des Porter, 68, had five passengers aboard his prized red 1930s bi-plane when he activated an emergency beacon about 1.30pm Monday.

Police have released the names of the five passengers.
